Volleyball Skills – The essential skills every player must develop

Here are the fundamental volleyball skills that need to be developed by all beginner volleyball players.

Volleyball Skill 1: Serve receive or passing the volleyball. To be able ot receive the ball on a serve is the start of the play. Without proper ball control and accuracy, it is almost impossible to mount an effective offense.

Volleyball Skill 2: Players must develop the right posture and stance in order to effectively control the ball. Their feet should be about shoulder width with a slight bend in the knees. have one feet infront of the other to allow quick movement on court.

Volleyball Skill 3: Ability to consitently serve the ball over. In the beginning, the ability to hit the volleyball ball over the net is a big enough challenge. Without being to fancy or cute, just ensure that players are working on consitently and accurately getting the ball over the net. Hard serves or fancy serves can follow later.

Volleyball Skill 4: Setting the volleyball is very important for all players these days. In the past, setting was more important for the setter but volleyball has become so competitive that all players must be able to set accurately.

Volleyball skill 5: Hitting is a must for a strong offensive play. Without it, your opponents will easy received your ball and mount an agressive attack.

Volleyball skill 6: Blocking. With any sport, defense is as important as offense. Effective blocking will reduce the ability of the opposing team mount a good attack giving your team the best chance of winning the point.
